    Pub Quiz
It's been a close-fought contest, but the results are finally in for the Name that Tune pub quiz from last week.

Before I move onto opening the shiny envelopes, I'd just like to thank everyone for taking part; and especially all you lovely, lovely people who knew the answer to Number 8. I got so much stick for using a longer clip of that in a work quiz because "no-one's ever heard of it." Thank-you for proving them wrong.

And now *fanfare* on to the winners.

Sharing joint third place are jinx1419 and bobsworld with a very respectable 14 points each.

Second place on the podium is also looking a little crowded as gashinryu and eyekiller both clocked up 16 points.

First place on the podium however is a place of splendid isolation as one person came out head and shoulders above the rest. They did so well I started to get paranoid that they'd nicked my CD collection, but it was all still there when I checked. Ladies, gentlemen and LJers this has been my first quiz where anyone scored full marks. I'd like a big, musical round of applause for pookee who scored a maximum 20 twenty points!! Congratulations!!

This way to the answersCollapse )

    Well done everyone.

    Current Mood: artistic yay!

    Hello pubquiz!

Each of the following ten intros clips is no longer than 5 seconds long, in fact some are a good deal shorter.

You get a point for the song title, and a point for the artist; giving a possible maximum score of 20 lovely, lovely points. So go on - give it your best shot.

    I'll name that tune:Collapse )

You have until 5pm on Saturday 8th November to get your entries in.

    Good luck everyone.

    Hello? Is anybody out there?

    *Tumbleweeds drift past*

I thought it might be time to resurrect the pubquiz community again by way of a short(ish) pop quiz. Assuming, of course, there's anybody still around who wants to do it. So, 20 questions are coming up, each of which is the first line to a song that was a hit in the 1980s. All you have to provide is the song title and artist (without the aid of Google - cheats never prosper, and you'll only end up burning in the fiery pits of hell if you do, YOU KNOW THAT!)

You get one point for each, so a possible 2 points per question, and I always encourage you to fill something in even if you don't know the answer, because I sometimes give bonus points for stuff that makes me laugh.

Closing date for entries is 5.00pm on Sunday 1st November. Enjoy!

Edit I just spotted a typo in number 14. I should be 'I go out of my head' not 'I got out of my head'. Sorry.

    Here be first lines...Collapse )

    Current Mood: bored bored

Thank you to everybody who entered the quiz, and for the nice comments you left about it. It was time consuming to put together, but great fun, and I've already got a few more lined up for a future quiz. But first, we need to know the results of this one. It was incredibly close, but the results in reverse order were as follows:

In 3rd place, with a stonking 41 points out of 50 - step forward lordofthethings and rhino!
In 2nd place, with a fantastic 42 points - arise sir baggy!
and in first place, with a mahooosive 46 out of 50 - take a bow jinx1419!

If anyone else would like to know their score, just shout and I'll reveal all in the comments.

Now I guess you'll be wanting to know the answers:

    1. The Beatles - A Hard Days Night, All You Need Is Love, Day Tripper, I Feel Fine
    2. Blur - Coffee and TV, There's No Other Way, Parklife, Tender
    3. The Police - Don't Stand So Close To Me, Message In A Bottle, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, Can't Stand Losing You
    4. Squeeze - Cool For Cats, Up The Junction, Hourglass, Tempted
    5. Robbie Williams - Let Me Entertain You, Kids, Rock DJ, Angels
    6. Abba - The Day Before You Came, Dancing Queen, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Money Money Money
    7. Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench, Everlong, All My Life, The One
    8. Madonna - Like A Prayer, Ray Of Light, Don't Tell Me, Vogue (kudos to those who spotted the one word 'God' which signified the start of 'Like A Prayer'!)
    9. Basement Jaxx - Good Luck, Do Your Thing, Where's Your Head At, Oh My Gosh
    10. Scissor Sisters - Laura, Take Your Mama, I Don't Feel Like Dancing, Comfortably Numb

    That's all, folks!
Believe it or not, I actually started compiling this quiz back in 2003. I found the original files when clearing out some old stuff on the pooter, and thought maybe it was time to finish and post the quiz. So here it is...

On this webpage you will find 10 mp3 files. Each file contains four intros to songs by one band or singer. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to identify the artist and each of the four songs. Each correct answer will earn you 1 point, making each question worth five points. Due to the restrictions of LJ polls, I could only post one text box per question, so to make marking the quiz easier could you please set the answers out by putting in the artists name first then each of the track names in order separated by commas. So, for example, if Question 1 was The Bee Gees and the tracks were Stayin' Alive, Night Fever, You Win Again and You Should Be Dancin' you'd fill out the text box as follows:

The Bee Gees, Stayin' Alive, Night Fever, You Win Again, You Should Be Dancin'

Easy, huh? If you want to use shortened names, you can, but you shouldn't need to as I've checked and all the artist and titles should fit ok.

If you have trouble accessing the mp3's for whatever reason, please shout in comments and I'll try to sort something out, e.g. emailing a zip file to you or something. Hopefully, though, it should work ok as I've posted similar quizzes in the past. As I said, there's five points per question to play for and possible points for comedy/amusing answers (if you can fit any in). I think there's something in there for everyone, so do have a go - it's the taking part that counts after all! I'm hoping this is relatively cheat-proof, but the usual rules still apply (and we all know that cheaters make the Baby Jesus cry!) Closing date for the quiz is next Wednesday, 22nd November at 6pm.

Hopefully that's all clear. So, on with the quiz!

The Before They Were Famous Quiz is running for an extra day. This is due to me being rather busy and not being able to get the results pictures edited in time for this evening.

The quiz will finish at 6pm tomorrow, with the answers appearing shortly after.

Also, since only one person has picked my favourite sport correctly, here's a clue. It involves very fast cars, was held in Spain today and Nigel Mansell was once it's world champion (although he's not one of the youngsters in the quiz). If anyone wants to change their answers following this new information, they have another 24 hours. :-)
I've been sat on these pics for the last 2 months and have finally found time to do something with them. :-)

12 pictures featuring famous types as young 'uns. Actors, musicians and competitors in my favourite sport (figure it out and you're laughing *g*). Guess 'em and win prizes!*

Sorry, as usual, for the delay in posting the results of my latest little quiz. Unfortunately a house move and lack of ADSL over the past couple of weeks got in the way of my interwebbing. However, on the first day of the return of our ADSL, here I am marking and posting the results of the quiz. How's that for dedication, eh?
Thanks to all 23 people who took part, and 'hello' to the one or two new faces. Hope you all enjoyed the quiz! Scores were generally pretty high, and our top three (in reverse order) were:

In third place, with 21.5 - lipfringe!
In second place, with 23 - dawnage!
And squeaking into first place, with 23.5 - bobsworld!

Hope everybody enjoyed it, and thanks again for having a go. As always if you want to know your score, just comment below. Meantime, please will someone remind me next time I set a quiz to not do so many question - they're murder to mark!!

Thought I'd post a quick Pot Luck quiz, just to give you all something to do now the cricket's finished...

30 questions on random stuff. Have tried to take out and replace the more Brit-Centric questions, but apologies if it's still a bit UK biased, that'll be the fault of the publishers (yes, I cheated today and used a book!)
